TTUKa Radar Operations 3-4-2015

The radar teams worked with the back edge of the snow this morning to collect some measurements. We left the hotel at 10:30 UTC and intitated scanning at around 11:40 UTC after some signficant issues were overcome w.r.t. radar operations in very cold temperatures. Example: the warm up times for the tranmitters were 30-60 minutes. We've noted several issues that need to be addressed, including the level sensor from Ka1 apparently has been jarred loose in transit, and the generator for Ka1 had difficulty starting this morning. We will investigate these issues later today. Deployment sites: TTUKa1: 40.06212 N, 105.03719 W TTUKa2: 40.08047 N, 104.98416 W Scanning started at ~11:40 UTC and continues presently. Intermixed with various test scans were periods of coordinated volumes (acquired via 60 degree sectors) and coordinated RHIs/virtual towers at the supersite location. Coordinated volumes: 12:32-13:10 UTC, 14:15 UTC-present Coordinated RHI scans(i.e. virtual towers): 13:31-14:04 UTC We will continue to run into the likely upcoming period of incoherency to assess radar artifacts and ground clutter. Then we will return to the hotel and spend the remainder of the day troubleshooting the identified issues.
