Morning/Noon Soundings for 9 March

Our first sounding of the day (nominally 0800 MDT), at Erie High School as part of the CABL educational outreach aspect of the project, nicely demonstrated the difference between low-level and upper-level winds. Although the sonde initially moved to the north, it quickly punched through the remains of the nocturnal inversion and then moved to the south. Winds were below 5 m/s for the lowest km+.

By the early afternoon, the second EHS sounding showed that strong daytime heating caused the boundary layer to deepen to ~ 1400 m. Winds were slightly stronger than in the morning.

For the remainder of the sondes on Monday and Tuesday, we will launch 15 minutes early to coordinate with the 30-minute RASS tests on those days.
